Nothing Can Stop Us Now |
The beginning of a memorable trip! |
|
|
Day 2 : 26th
Oct
We had booked a Mahindra jeep for the entire day. We
planned to visit all the scenic places in and around
Munnar and then by late afternoon will start for
Thekkady/ Kumily - a town which is four kms from the
Periyar sanctuary. It is rightly said, as we experienced
later, that the four hours ride from Munnar to Thekkady
is extremely beautiful.
By 0800 hours, we were in our jeep with our luggages,
foodpacks (for lunch; we didn't want to spend useless
time on food!), water and other favorite liquid. The
weather was amazingly beautiful. It was cloudy but
sometimes it was bright sunshine as well. It was
sometimes windy and cool and sometimes simply warm. |

|
 |
Tata Tea
has many tea gardens and factories in Munnar.
These plantations typically have their own private
roads. Infact, credit goes to Tata Tea and other tea
companies to have preserved and maintained the place,
its roads and the culture so well. |
 |
|
|
We were
on our way to Devikulam. There is a lake surrounded by
mountains. The place was cool and the gentle breeze was heady
indeed! |
|
 |
The Devikulam
lake is very scenic. It is quite long and one can see
the lake while traveling on the road. Sometimes the lake
gets hidden behind the tea gardens and the slopes of the
hills.
There are quite a few hydro power plants in this
region of Kerala. There are many sluice gates as well.
They are old but beautifully maintained.
The roads are narrow but not at all dangerous.
Sometimes they become steep at at other times, gently
sloping. There are various types of curves including
many blind curves. After Devikulam, we were headed for
Matupetty lake and dam. |
|
|
 |
In between the
winding journey, we stopped at many places. Since we had
our lunch packed, we were continuously munching
something. |
 |
|
|
Shre,
our chief manager, was always ready to accept our demands.
Easily, it was a Herculean task for him and we all admitted that
he was simply tHe BesT! He maintained the finances. He made the
iternary. He searched for the hotels and what not! Shre...
you really were great! |
|
Suman, Writo,
Anto and I had formed a great masti group. We had
gone to Yelagiri trip and we
enjoyed a lot.
Suman is a ever smiley guy. Always happy. Always
ready to pull others legs and ofcourse, his repartees
are legendary. His nicknaming of lesser mortals
will make anyone laugh hilariously. And Suman is BODY
conscious. Regular exercises, good food habits,
meditation... he does it all to maintain is mAcHo body.
Inside this strong n sexy body, resides an even
stronger mind and soul. The "bhaiyya"
in Suman readily gives consultation on any topics to
anyone. Suman is in short "Load mut le yaaar..."
personified. |

|
|
 |
At around 1030
hours, we had reached the Matupetty lake. The place was
quiet. We had been able to reach there before other
tourists crowded the place. We intended to do boating
there. |
 |
|
|
With
luck, we got the type of boats we asked for. A paddle boat and a
row boat! It was action time for the machos of the group ! :-) |
